Mercy and Church Planting

Mercy Ministry

Jesus came into the world not only to preach the good news of salvation, but to embody it as well. At Midtown Community Church we desire not only to proclaim the gospel that Jesus saves sinners but to tangibly show that gospel through deeds of mercy. We often pursue deeds of mercy in our city in partnership together with other local organizations. Here are some ways we are actively showing mercy to our community right now.

  • Ben Franklin Elementary School

We love our friends around the corner at Ben Franklin Elementary School. We partner together with them to care for their teachers, staff, and students in many different ways throughout the school year.

    Bethesda Mission

Bethesda Mission is a shelter for life recovery and restoration for hurting, hopeless, and homeless men, women, and children in our community. They desire to holistically serve those in need, equip them to engage purposefully and meaningfully with society, and lead them to experience the life-changing power of Jesus Christ.

  • Benevolence

Writing to churches in the first century world, the apostle James said that any church who says to a brother or sister in need “keep warm and well fed” without seeking to help does not have real faith at all. So, we seek to ensure that the people in our church or community who have immediate physical needs are taken care of. If you or someone you know lives in Harrisburg and is in need of assistance with a physical need, you can fill out our benevolence application here: MCC Benevolence Form

Church Planting

We believe that God’s plan A for spreading the good news of Jesus throughout the world is the local church. At Midtown Community Church, we are passionate about using our energy and resources to see more churches planted that preach the gospel and seek the flourishing of their cities. Meet our church planting partners.

  • Fellow Citizens Denver

Fellow Citizens Church was planted in 2026 to proclaim the good news of Jesus in the heart of Denver. Strategically located in the center of the city, Fellow Citizens was founded to see the people of Denver brought into the church to become fellow citizens in the household of God (Eph. 2:19).

  • Mike and Christina Leonzo

Mike and Cristina are missionaries located in Quito, Ecuador. Their vision is to see a church planting movement begin in Ecuador and expand to the nations of the world under the leadership of spiritually mature Latin American pastors and missionaries trained in teaching and applying the Word of God. They are involved in church revitalization at their home church, Iglesia Fuente de Vida, as well as training and equipping other local pastors around the city of Quito.

  • Acts 29

Acts 29 is an organization and global network of churches bound together by relationship, theology, and church planting. We strategically partner together with Acts 29 to see more churches planted.

Why Outreach and Church Planting Matter

Jesus commands His church to love their neighbors and to make disciples among all people. Outreach and church planting are not separate missions, but two expressions of the same calling.

We seek the good of Midtown Harrisburg because God has placed us here.

We invest in church planting because the gospel is good news for every city and every culture.

By the power of the Holy Spirit, we hope to be faithful stewards of this calling for generations to come.
